About Pilates

Pilates is an exercise methodology developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century. Originally called “Contrology," Pilates was designed to develop full-body control, build strength, improve flexibility, and increase physical endurance. It emphasizes alignment, breathing, developing a strong core, and improving coordination and balance. The repertoire is vast enough to cover the needs of clients ranging from children to elderly adults and clients in post-op rehabilitation to professional athletes.


STOTT PILATES® is a contemporary style of Pilates developed by Moira Stott and Lindsay Merrithew. In collaboration with physical therapists, sports medicine and other leading fitness professionals, they systemized a contemporary approach to Joseph Pilates’ original design that honors all the knowledge available via modern science. The method evolves appropriately as scientists discover more and more about the human body.
